LOUISA PALMI

b. 1995 - Tromsø, Norway

I am a composer, musician and sound artist. In my work I combine electronics, electroacoustics and 3D sound technology with dance and live performance.

The music can be described as evocative and contrasting soundscapes. I am interested in how the feeling of space can be transformed by manipulating and spatializing sound.

My music is often based on field recordings. I find inspiration in the Arctic nature and I investigate social phenomena through the Arctic gaze.

I have a Bachelor from the Academy of Music and Drama in Göteborg and have studied under Natasha Barrett and Arve Henriksen. Currently I am studying a Master in Electroacoustic Composition at the Royal Music Academy in Stockholm.

In short time my work has gained recognition as innovative and progressive and has been presented several places in Europe such as Inkonst (Malmö), Palace of the Grand Dukes (Vilnius), Sentralen (Oslo) Insomnia Festival (Tromsø), 3:e Våningen (Göteborg) and Verona Resona (Verona). She has collaborated with several established artists such as Per Martinsen (Mental Overdrive) and Toby Kassell (Dancer and choreograph).

In 2023 I got the prestigeous title Emerging Artist from the Arctic Arts Festival and was also  electected to be part of KUPP 2.2.  KUPP is a development program for young, promising composers under the age of 35.

Ambisonics is a full-sphere surround sound format. It covers sound sources around, above and below the listener. Contrasting other multichannel surround formats, it allows audio production and playback without using the traditional channel-based methodology. This enables reproduction on any number of speakers in different configurations
