Enheduanna’s poems tell of how she was cast from her throne and down into the underworld. It is the story of overcoming the trials life throws at us, only to emerge transformed. Instead of asking who she is, she concludes, “I am,” while at the same time challenging dualistic thinking by insisting that matter too holds soul. For the human being is perishable and always in process.
Drawing on a handful of heartfelt, self-composed songs, live music, movement, and 60-million-year-old coal stones from Svalbard, Liv Hanne Haugen creates a sensuous and deeply probing solo work. She is deeply attentive to the body’s signals, which largely guide her artistic process. But how much of oneself can one endure? How unique can one – and does one truly want to – be?
What she has shattered into dust
Will never rise again
She steps out – runs,
Laces up her shoes.
